Our Story

The Batchelders are decendants of Stephen Batchelder He was born 1561 in England. About 1629 a colonizing company called "The Plow (Plough) Company" was organized in England to settle the so-called Plow Patent in Maine; and Mr. Bachiller, then 68 years old, was its pastor. He came to America in 1632 in the "William and Francis". The "Plow Company" failed and Mr. Bachiller formed a small church in Lynn, Mass. where he resided for a while, then in Hampton, N.H. and returned to England where he died in 1660 at Hackney, now a part of London.
